There are more than 3,200 universities in the United States, and the one you choose will shape your future. It matters that you fit a university both academically and athletically, because that is what raises your chances of being admitted and winning a scholarship. We help you find your way through the college sports landscape, the maze of admission requirements and the options for financial aid. A successful student-athlete is not just a winner: they look for academic challenge and value a supportive team and a culture that suits them.
U.S. college sport is governed by the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA), which has three divisions, or leagues. They largely match sporting levels. Division I (except the Ivy League) and Division II offer athletic scholarships. Division III offers need-based financial aid.
Academic and athletic levels do not always go hand in hand. Division I includes America’s strongest sports universities, but not all of them rank at the top academically. Meanwhile, several of the world’s top universities compete in Division III. What matters most is finding the best combination of academic and athletic level for you.
Be careful with large recruitment agencies. Their university recommendations are often mass-produced and do not take your real ability into account.
At College Game Plan, we always work together with the athlete’s family. We avoid unfounded, over-optimistic promises and are always open about the pros and cons of target universities, the costs and ways to save, and the opportunities and limits. We follow NCAA rules and good practice strictly. If we spot obstacles ahead, we tell you honestly right away, so you can change course if needed. Find out how we can help and what it costs!
